Tamil Nadu has got 471 Engg. colleges with allotted 1.5 L. + candidates entered this year 2010.
The TN Govt. requested center to stop granting permission to any new engg. college in future.
Dr. Anandakrishnan Chairman IIT Kanpur expressed concern for these poorly trained graduate, would only be creating time bomb in society. No doubt research institutes are very much needed in India.
The growth of software export from TN, grow from 13 k. cr. in 2005 to 40k. cr. which is possible because of talented engineers are available at their door step to suit the industry.
There are good absorption in other faculty also.
For unskilled works, the contractors engage the poor from other state like Madhya Pradesh, U.P. and Bihar. They need new engg. colleges.
In my view, engg. study will give an overall individual capacity development and the candidate will be suitable to any job with a minimum training program.
