Wow! Congrats to IIT-M students won the award with $20000 for energy storing software from New york.
The Supply & Demand Mismatch in Powergrid exits from the day one of power generated 100 years ago.
The entire world is maintaining alternating current (AC) power system; except using HVDC for long distance transmission line and converted to AC using thyristors.
Mismatch narrowed down by our forefather
engineers from time to time on the following models.
1. Low demand period during night hours, agriculture pump sets allowed to run with very minimum energy cost.

2. Industries running with night shifts allowed with concessional rate and also with others methods like this.

3. Some 40 years back pumped storage system developed in Tamil Nadu only, at Kadamparai, where the water will be pumped to the higher level dam during surplus period and used back in day time as generator with the same machine.

4. Thermal stations, nuclear stations machines will take more than a day to restart and hence the machines cannot be taken out of grid during off peak hour and also restarting cost will be more.

5. The wind mills generations is most variable
and at times we may have to cutoff wind generators during night time.

6. An earlier software implemented in U.S.A. by using utilities like washing machines etc., during night hours is also reasonably good.

7. Storage of energy in DC (battery) will not sustain in the long run.

Hence PUMPED STORAGE SCHEME through out the world will be very much Green and will sustain in long run.
