As rain falls from the sky, each droplet is accelerated by the Earth's gravitational pull and gains a lot of speed. When a rain drop hits the ground/puddle, the energy in the drop is dissipated as tiny ripples on the puddle.

Lets say we can design a mat, that absorbs energy when a rain drop impact, I think we can generated a lot of energy from such a system.

Any suggestions to improve the idea?
