I heard this ridiculous piece of news on NPR, the National Public Radio. Ryanair, an Irish low cost airline has announced that passengers will now be charged to use the toilet when they are flying. I thought this was a joke, but no, apparently it isn't. These are the words about the proposal from O'Leary , the CEO of Ryanair. "If you look at it sensibly, it would reduce an awful lot of the unnecessary visits to the toilet that pisses so many passengers off onboard a plane". "Our average journey time is one hour. Most people would go to the loo before they get on the plane, or they hold it until they land. You would only have to deal with the people who absolutely have to go". "Frankly, if we think 20% of our passengers in a year would use the facility, if they paid a pound per passenger, it would raise about 15 million quid and would help us to pass on £15m worth of fare savings to the travelling public" It's beyond my imagination to even think that someone could come up with such a proposal. Now what next? Will Ryanair start charging passengers for taking off their shoes or may be taking a nap during their flight? Totally outrageous. I really hope the US airline industry does not take the cues from Ryanair and start to impose these charges on us.
